Junior students are accommodated in either residence accommodation or host family accommodation. Most junior programmes include accommodation in the course package.
The residence option offers standardised accommodation in single or shared bedrooms. Residence accommodation can be in boarding school houses, university residences, or private residences owned or managed by a language school. University residences tend to be single or twin rooms offering private bathrooms, whereas boarding school residences may accommodate 1 – 8 lodgers per room, and tend to offer shared bathroom facilities.
The advantages of staying in a residence is that all facilities are on site – classrooms, the canteen, sports facilities etc. are all within a few minutes’ walk of each other. Students can take advantage of the communal areas, such as lounges, games rooms or computer rooms where they can meet other students and make new friends. There is also the added benefit of 24-hour security. Student residences are of a high standard and most include a cleaning and laundry service.
Host family accommodation is ideal for those looking for a full immersion experience with a local family. Families are selected by the language school and must adhere to strict quality standards. The families may be located within walking distance of the school, or up to 30-40 minutes on public transport. Junior students always stay in shared rooms with a minimum of 2 students per room and a maximum of 4 students per room.
